Champoeg State Park
with "Sisters on the Fly"
May 28-30, 2013
Sisters on the Fly is a national organization of women adventurers. It was started by two sisters who enjoy fishing and camping together. They fixed up and decorated a couple of vintage trailers to enhance their enjoyment and invited girlfriends to come along.
There are now 2,400 members who gather regularly to share their love of outdoor adventures. Not all members have cute, kitschy trailers, but the trailers have become a sort of trademark of the group.
Kate and I came to the event as guests or "sisters on the try." I don't think we'll join the group at this point, but we enjoyed meeting people and seeing all of the sweet old trailers.
This was our first time at Champoeg State Park, and we loved it! It's a huge park with over 70 campsites, as well as yurts and cabins. Miles of paved bike trails and hiking paths. Historic structures and museums. And it's open all year round.
The sites in Loop A are very park-like, with lots of green lawn. Many of the sites back onto fields or gulleys. Loop B is more field-like, open to the sun, which would be nice in colder weather.
