McKenzie Bridge Campground, Oregon
June 21-23, 2013
McKenzie Bridge Campground is a federal park campground on the McKenzie River. It's a rustic campground -- pit toilets and pumped water -- and quite wooded. Many of the sites are right on the river, although the river runs so fast, it's only good for viewing, not wading. Our site was not on the river, but it was spacious, and combined with site 5 would be perfect for group camping. At least when we were there, we found the campground to be quiet and not very crowded.
The best thing about this campground is its proximity to wonderful destinations along Highway 126. On Saturday after breakfast, we drove east to Trailbridge Campground where we hiked along McKenzie River to Tamolitch Pool, a surprisingly blue spring-fed pool. After a picnic, we stopped off at Sahalie Falls, then drove on to check out Clear Lake.
When we woke up to rain on Sunday morning, we were only a short drive away from a warm soak in the pool at Belknap Hot Springs Resort.
On our way home, we stopped in Pleasant Hill for a great breakfast out at Sunrise Cafe.
